Artist Statement

My current work continues to deal with social and self-analytical issues, illustrating views on cultural affiliation. These ideas are presented visually through a motif of theatrical themes and symbolism through personal vocabulary. I am fascinated with the layers of metaphors within theatre and reality, exploring such subject matter as role status, social norm, and anxiety. The use of metaphor serves as a comment on universal issues we face in our modern surroundings.
My work is strongly figurative and still-life/environment based. I use observation in realism as a vital tool in emulating a "presence and tangibility." The imagery incorporates full spectrums of color and varieties of line making. In many cases, there is a psychological undertone in attempt to materialize human memory and mood. Like theatre, my work calls for the visual response and interpretation of the viewer. It also calls for the willing suspension of disbelief: to ponder what concept or narrative is beyond the visual plane.
